Lose-Slow/Can't-Win '08
Sorry for posting so late, but really - what's there to say about today's Prickly City? Carmen calls Winslow a "flag-burning commie" and Winslow calls Carmen a "knuckle-dragging fascist." Can someone explain to Stantis that according to Jonah Goldberg liberals are the fascists AND the commies? Well, pretty much every form of government that fails is blamed on liberals so I guess it's a moot point.
I'm also wondering why being a knuckle-dragger is somehow the equivalent of a flag-burner, but whatever. I guess it hurt too much for Stantis to come up with something legit like "illegally spying" or "torturing" or "Constitution ignoring" as a better description for Carmen.
Overall it's a decent strip - I like how silly it makes politicians and talking heads look when they talk about "unity" and "reaching across the aisle." It's one of the reasons I'm not a big Obama supporter, but I'm especially not pulling for Hillary or McSame as Bush. The Liebermans/McCains/Hillaries of the country are the ones destroying it, not making it a better place. The Republicans had their way for six years and trashed the joint - why should the Dems work with them, especially when they've spent the last year or so blocking everything they've tried to do and even when they DO "unify" Bush just vetoes the bill? Then again at this point I'm fed up with the whole lot of them so maybe I'm just a lil bitter.
Carmen joining Winslow's ticket is the laziest, least creative thing Stantis could have done. Not only that, he did it in the laziest way possible. Having Winslow beg the person who destroyed his campaign join him on the ticket makes zero sense. If Stantis really wanted to have fun with this idea, he would have had Carmen truly pull a Cheney and tell Winslow she figured out a way to save his campaign - she was going to be his veep, and all he had to do was say whatever she tells him to say and leave all the thinking to her. But instead we're apparently going to have Carmen and Winslow bickering the whole time instead of trying to be funny. Wonderful. Just another day in Prickly City.
