Wolf Blitzer Is The New Rock Lobster
Today's four panels of Prickly City really made me think...I wonder how long it would take for my eyebrows to look like Andy Rooney's if I just let them grow and never trimmed them. Also, do either Carmen or Winston have last names, or are those their last names? If they're their last names, why do they go around calling each other by their last names as if they're some kind of high school football players? Do they play high school football perhaps? You have to be at least 35 to be elected president, so how could Winston be in high school? Would 22 years of high school make him more or less qualified than Barack Obama and his 8 years in the State Senate and 2 years of "experience" in the U.S. Senate? But if those are their first names, what would you think their last names would be? Or if those are their last names, they would have a first name as their last name, and that's where things get confusing. A last name used to be referred to as a surname. Relatedly, the country of Suriname used to be referred to as Dutch Guyana. They made their old two names into one new name. Maybe that's what has happened here with Winston and Carmen. In any case, how weird would it be to have a president with only one name? Very. Think about it.

I've always assumed that Carmen is one of those unusually precocious cartoon first-graders(like Calvin if he were a neoconservative and rather less erudite), and assuming they're both maybe five or six(being the same height) therefore Winslowton may be over 35 in dog years.

Sooo...Winslow gave this speech at the New Hampshire Hilton? Yet only two days ago he was yelled at for not being in New Hampshire and yesterday he was in Prickly City calling voters? It was too cold for him to go there to campaign, but not cold enough for him to fly all the way there just to go on TV and whine that he lost?
There is no doubt that Scott Stantis is the worst professional comic strip writer in the country.

Obama has held elected office longer than any Democratic but Kucinich. And the Illinois Statehouse isn't exactly all warm and collegial, Ms. Sacki Steinem.
But, hey, the point remains: what the heck is Stantis's story line here? Just what exactly are these characters doing? Or - is Stantis showing his solidarity with the WGA by turning his strips into improv exercises?

@Annie:
So is he an establishment hack or the voice of change?!?
I call flip-flop.

He's an establishment hack who can get things done, unlike all the establishment hacks in Washington who are too polarized to do even the simplest things. And that, sadly, represents change.

Why is it up to the Democrats to find a "bipartisan" candidate? And why would Obama be able to do anything differently? As long as the Republicans have 41 votes in the Senate it doesn't matter who's in the White House - they'll either block everything the Dems want or hold their breath until Reid and Pelosi give them everything they want (which is what we've seen for a year now). It's nice to think that someone like Obama can somehow "heal the divide," but I'm with Edwards - you can't reason with certain folks, and there's ample evidence of that in politics right now. Gonna be really hard for Obama to tell the healthcare companies and all of the other special interests that he's taken money from to "come together for the good of the country" if it means cutting into their profit margin. It doesn't work that way.

Hmm, looks like I'm the only one who thought that today's strip was a disgustingly out-of-date reference to the Dean scream of '04. Remember, PC didn't exist back then, so maybe Stantis has to make fun of it now.
Right now I'm leaning towards Obama, although I do like Richardson (if only he had a shot).

And where's the "new character" from yesterday today? Stupid comic strip...
Posted by: Chris at January 9, 2008 08:17 PM
Well, this sucks: Richardson has dropped out of the race. Looks like it's just Hillary, Obama, and Edwards. (And Kucinich and Gravel, sort of...)
