I'd Say We Wish That We Knew What We Know Now When We Were Younger, But 1. We Were Never Younger, Just Less Handsome and 2. We Did Know, Kinda Like The News About A Middle Eastern Country & Their Nuclear Weapons Capabilities

TODAY'S STRIP

This date in Shrubville history -December 5, 2004:
No column was published! We didn't yet have anybody with the testicular virility around like the solid and reliable The Furnace at that point to provide us with Weekend Updates the like of which hadn't been since the similarly propulsively named Charles Rocket. A mere 5 months after the debut of the Prickly City, and only 2 1/2 months after the conception of Shrubville, there was still a glimmer of hope that it would be a quick and easy task to ferret out the idiocy of PC and watch it fade, fade, fade away. Somehow this rat bastard of a strip is going to outlive us all, however, much like the death of newspapers is much overexagerrated.

The CJo's analysis at that point:

I realize that by proclaiming Stantis creatively bankrupt I, too, am repeating myself. But I will continue to repeat this charge if Scott Stantis continues to repeat, rip-off, rerun, regurgitate, rehash, and re-be-an-idiot.

As true today as it was when it was written.

Thus concludes THIS DAY IN SHRUBVILLE HISTORY.

Isn't Scotty a pasty aging baby boomer? Would he prefer Rupert Murdoch, a pasty elderly man? Or Sam Zell, a swashbuckling elderly man? Or maybe Nick Denton, a smooth Generation Xer?

Somehow, I think the pasty baby boomers, with their desire for balance, are Scotty's best supporters - not to mention members of his age cohort.

You're right Annie - Stantis is one of the baby boomers that he hates so much. And judging by his pics he doesn't get out into the Alabama sun very much.

I can't believe that I'm the only one who noticed today's HUGE continuity error! Winslow, after being laid off to compensate for the newspapers' loss of profits, inexpicably reappeared today. What's with Stantis completely abandoning his storyline when he's not even halfway through it?!

What is it with Scott Stantis and his self-loathing ways? I do agree with him that nespapers need to modernize to stay popular, but I think that the strip that he used to make this point sucks. But at least it makes a point, unlike Tuesday's strip.

Interesting that Sacki brought up the Iran thing. I remember picking up the morning paper on Tuesday and reeling in shock (well, maybe not quite reeling, but you know what I mean) from the fact that the top two stories were both GOOD news. When was the last time that happened? Anyway, the two uplifting stories were the fact that Iran has not been trying to make a nuclear bomb for four years (bad news for Bush, good news for us) and the fact that Chavez's make-me-a-dictator referendum was defeating, meaning he's apparently not pulling all the strings after all.

Of course, Bush immediately got out there to make himself look like an idiot with regards to the Iran story. Yesterday, he declared that he views the report as a warning signal because if they stopped working on a nuclear bomb 4 years ago, well then they could start up again any minute now. Then today, he is back to demanding that Iran end their uranium enrichment program or face isolation (oh, and come clean about your dirty past too).

Why do some people still have faith in this guy?

I noticed it too Chris, but at this point it's almost expected that Stantis won't care enough to keep things straight. Today's strip actually feels like it should have run on Monday.
