Vindication And Stantis's New Crush

TODAY'S STRIP

Ahh, I feel vindicated. But then again, so can Scott Stantis's Number One Drunken Frat Boy Fan since he was right too.

Turns out that yesterday's clusterf*ck of a strip was Stantis trying to say that humans are responsible for global warming no matter which globe - here, Mars, Pluto (hmm - maybe I shouldn't include Pluto since those dang liberal scientists don't think it's a planet anymore). While our new commenter Doc theorized it was just conservatives Winslow/Winston was blaming, today the coyote lets us know that it's the human race in general like I was suspecting. Yay me?

(By the way, this thought just hit me: why doesn't Stantis make an evil Winston the Coyote and actually take advantage of his stupid slip of the tongue from a few weeks ago? He could prove us all fools, saying that he's intended all along to reveal Winslow's evil twin brother Winston and that the super secret storyline slipped out ahead of time in the podcast and we should have just waited to see how brilliant this new character would be. At least it would be better than quoting obscure scientists named Norbert with theories about planets that aren't Earth.)

That little aside I just had? You can thank Scott Stantis's Number One Drunken Frat Boy Fan for that, since in yesterday's comments (going under the clever nom de plume "shrubville sucks") he made the point that Stantis was going to explain Monday's strip...on Tuesday. And danged if he wasn't right. Why we should have to wait a day to understand what the heck he's talking about is beyond me, but that's what happened. If we're lucky maybe SSNODFBF will come back and make more fun of me, because I miss those days of the bully on the playground trying to ruin my self-esteem with name-calling. I'm sure it has nothing to do with your tiny penis, sir, or your attraction to Scott Stantis in a way that makes your pants feel smaller. Nothin' at all.

So I guess the rest of the week will be Winslow (or is it Evil Winston?) saying how horrible human beings are because of our gas emmissions. Excuse me for a sec - YAWWWWNNNNNN. What, not enough material to make fun of the Dems, Stantis? Come on, even I want you to rip on them now. Nobody cares what you think about ice ages, Stantis. Except your new man-crush SSNODFBF. He thinks you're dreeaaammmmyyyy.

Sadly:
a. I fully expect a fart joke.
b. I will be shocked if there isn't a fart joke.

Well, so much for my brilliant logic. I mean, after all, Winslow usually makes anti-conservative jabs, not anti-human ones. Wait... Maybe this is like when Stantis changed his anti-war movement to the "hugs" movement. Maybe we're BOTH right.

oh right just cuz you make fun of me in writing now ill stop likin this strip well let me tell you somthkng i personally like what scott stanti writes a lot but im not attracted to him pervs, man isnt todays strip hilarious lol i was reeding it and thinking how funny winslow wuz when he like more stuff for me lol, what a grat way to get comedy from serious situation

Okay, I'm starting to think that SSNODFBF is a put-on. I mean seriously: "lol i was reeding it and thinking how funny winslow wuz when he like more stuff for me lol?" Can't be real.

Posted by: The Furnace at September 25, 2007 05:01 PM

Yeah, it's starting to seem that way to me too, Furnace. Either this guy is serious fan of this comic strip, and those, as you know, are hard to come by, or maybe it's some guy putting us on by posting as some pro-Stantis imbecile/drunkard. The strongest evidence for the latter is that which was cited by the Furnace. I mean, no one laughs (okay, types "lol," same thing) at Prickly City. Except for Toby. There's a third theory...SSNODFBF is actually Toby from the podcasts, trying to defend Scott Stantis!

On to the strip...I'm not really sure what Stantis is trying to get at here. Mars has had ice ages in the past; therefore, according to Scott (the cartoonist, not the fat Baby Boomer), Earth would be better off without the influence of humans, inducing global warming according to Winslow (but then, he only wants the humans gone so he can have his own private planet, so maybe Stantis is once again "debunking" global warming with the least amount of evidence possible).

Oh, Winslow. Or Winston. What are we going to do with you and your silly liberal ideas? Actually, make that just plain silly ideas; anyone who reads this comic strip regularly knows that Scott Stantis never says anything serious through Winslow. Except maybe SSNODFBF.

Hey, Doc Sane, nice to meet you.

The Doc plus SSNODFBF means two new posters in as many days. Is that a record or something?

The frat kid or whoever he claimed to be is trolling. Totally fake.

Hey Furnace,
I was thinking the same thing about "pc sux" too. Has to be a joke. There is absolutely no way anybody could think today's strip is hilarious.

Chris,
Don't forget that Charles Brubaker likes the strip too, and presumably laughs at it occasionally.

John, I know that Charles is a fan of the strip, but although he left this blog in disgust, there is a fundamental difference between him and SSNODFBF, which is that I have a lot of respect for Charles.

Stantis protege though he may be, Charles is an expert on the world of comic strips, historic and modern. He always knows what the answer to some comics-related question is (on other comic strip blogs and boards like the Daily Cartoonist, Stripper's Guide, ToonTalk, etc.). He is always up on the very latest news and he critiques others' work with loads of respect. At the young age of 18 (I think) he already has great potential as a developing cartoonist, whether he will draw a comic strip or editorial cartoons (if you ever see any of them they're actually quite good). Charles has done a lot to earn people's respect and from what he has written online he is obviously a decent guy. So no matter how much Charles may idolize the cartoonist that we love to hate, I will always have plenty of respect for him, his words, and his work.

As for "shrubville sucks," the guy behind that is clearly a fake. I think he was pretty believable until today (see the last two days). But this guy is a jerk. He does nothing to make us respect his opinions. Whether his opinions are really pro-Stantis or not, his execution comes across poorly. SSNODFBF is the one who should be mocked for laughing at "Prickly City," not charles so much.

Doc Sane - thanks for reading, and you're probably right in that initially Stantis was going to accuse the conservatives of being guilty but decided to broaden it to humans in general since it's kinda hard to just blame one political group when it comes to global warming.

And I agree with John - Charles might list PC as a favorite, but he also loves comics in general and is pretty well educated in the medium. I kind of got the sense his storming off after that Thanksgiving raunchfest CJo put up was mostly an excuse to not have to defend Stantis anymore - even he was admitting at how poorly the strip was going, and I don't think it was fun for him anymore to defend PC. At least that's my theory.

Posted by: The Furnace at September 25, 2007 10:30 PM

OK, no offense was meant to Charles B. I was just trying to say that there were actually 2 people who like PC. (Toby and Charles.) I hope it didn't sound like I was suggesting Charles was the troll.

Posted by: John at September 26, 2007 09:05 AM

Glad to be here, Furnace. This isn't actually my first post, though. I posted way back when manga Carmin and Winslow were attacked by the Floating Head of Nancy Pelosi (I pointed out that the head never actually did anything to warrant being blown up except hovering around doing nothing, although that might be a justifiable reason for a few Dems lately. -_-;). This new one just seemed completely on the same wavelength as Bruce Tinsley's Evil Sun strips in Mallard Fillmore until Winslow started blaming all humans in general. The usual script is for the liberal to blame all global warming on rich conservatives and their SUVs and wasteful lifestyles and then have the conservative point out that there are no conservatives on Mars, so obviously there's no such thing as anthrogenic climate change.

You know, 'cuz that makes perfect sense.

By the way, we've all been so busy talking about the strip's stupid message that we completely forgot to mention that impossibly crappy moon that Stantis gave us in this strip. I mean, it's not even the usual green banana. This one honestly looks like God has flipped a giant pancake into space.
