The Ho Before the Hum

TODAY'S STRIP

A real head-scratcher, today's strip. I'd say I don't get it but that gives too much credit to the author. There's no it there to get. It's just one additional day of padding until the primary tomorrow. And then -- you can book it; you heard it here first -- a week of disputed election returns.

I can't wait.

Yeah I have no idea what the heck Stantis is going for here. Nice to know that Winslow has had a campaign headquarters all this time. I'm sure there were zero jokes to be found in Winslow dealing with his campaign workers. Nope, no humor there at all.

I think I get it.
Basically, Winslow says that he's been finishing up his pre-primary campaign by going around and associating with the people of Prickly City, specifically in the factories.
Carmen is puzzled, because apparently Prickly City has no factories, and thus how could Winslow shake hands with the City's factory workers?
However -- here's the punchline -- as it turns out, Winslow really didn't shake hands with anyone, since there were no factory workers to shake hands with anyway. And that's good because he didn't want to get up early just to shake hands with them before they got to work anyway.
"HA HA HA!" chuckles Scott Stantis. What a gem!

That's the joke. I don't think it's especially funny, but then everyone's entitled to their own opinion. (Except Pellucid.)

Okay, I'm confused. Did Winslow actually get up early, or is he making his plans for tomorrow? And I thought his name had been changed to Winston?

Speaking of Winston, someone made an argument to put that slip o' the tongue on the wikipedia page. Kinda detracts from the other arguments, IMHO.

No, no, Winslow (Winston?) isn't making plans for tomorrow.
He was going to get up early today to shake hands with factory workers before they started to work, but since there are no factories and consequently no factory workers he didn't have to get up early.

Man, this joke seems even worse when people try to explain it. I read Chris's explanation above, understood the joke, and then groaned at how pathetic it is.

Some gem.

I wonder if at some point Stantis considered mentioning that the factory jobs had all be shipped overseas, but then realized that it's because of his Republican party that's happened so much lately and he probably shouldn't bring it up.
