TODAY'S STRIP

T I M E L I N E

November 29, 2006
It is announced that the U.S. is banning the sale of luxury goods to North Korea, specifically targeting items said-to-be favored by Kim Jong Il, such as iPods and plasma televisions.

Scott Stantis embarks on a two-day (and counting) series about Winslow
desiring a plasma TV so much that he pretends to be Kim Jong Il and threatens the world with his nuclear program.

I bang my head on the keyboard until my brain oozes out of my ears, which I then scoop up and toss in the garbage. No need for it anymore. My brain is broken after too many years of trying to piece together the wild and crazy rantings of a simple-minded conservative kook with an endless supply of markers but a finite supply of ideas.

I do find it interesting that on the same day Stantis starts banging the North Korea drum out-of-the-blue, Bruce Tinsley's Mallard Fillmore also conjures up Kim Jong-Il. Of course, they both troll the same message boards. They both cruise the same conservative bathhouses, where, amidst the flesh of other men, war plans are drawn up.

Problem: Stantis has no material.
Solution: Dress up Winslow as Kim Jong-Il.

Problem: Winslow looks like Kim, but there's no punchline.
Solution: Take a pot-shot at the French.

Problem: Now what?
Solution: Write a series about another made-up, conservative tall tale like Nancy Pelosi's plane or Al Gore's carbon footprint, to be printed two weeks after it is proven false.

I do believe that this is how Stantis's brain solves his "Prickly City"-related problems. But, unfortunately for us, he seems to find more and more solutions the farther he lowers the bar.

And this Winslow = Kim Jong-Il two-days-and-counting junk-heap-worthy series is a case in point.

In addition to creamy sauces, France has a television manufacturing company that might possible have the TV that Winslow Jong Il wants. Hence, the French surrender would serve his purposes. I wouldn't expect the conservative blogs that Scotty reads to know about this, though.

Ooo, I have an idea for a strip: Osama wanted us out of Saudi Arabia so he flew planes into the WTC towers and the Pentagon, and Bush pulled our troops out of there. So maybe Winslow should dress up like Osama next and threaten to hijack a plane with a box cutter. Same thing right?

Oh, wait, I'm sorry, that guy in the ripped t-shirt with the hairy back confessed to everything terror-related in the last 20 years, so nevermind.

Furnace, there would be an outcry or controversy of some kind if there was a "Prickly City" where Winslow dressed up as Osam bin Laden and threatened to hijack a plane!
But I still can't figure out why that would be deemed worse than having him dress up as Kim Jong-Il and threatening to nuke everyone.
Hmmm.

I think it's because Kim is set up to be a goofball, whereas we're not even supposed to think about Osama anymore.
